After finishing his apprenticeship as a technical draughtsman in architecture in Zurich, Jul moved to Berlin to study product design at the University of the Arts under Prof. Ineke Hans. A semester abroad at the Industrial Design department of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and a six-month internship at the Stockholm-based studio Form Us With Love further broadened his understanding of design and introduced him to a wide range of working cultures and philosophies; both of which continue to shape how he works today.
In his practice, Jul is drawn to the reinterpretation of familiar object typologies and a respectful approach to material, aiming to create objects that go beyond the purely formal and leave lasting impressions on users and their surroundings. He tries to maintain a balance between functionality and character, approaching material, process, and context with integrity. More broadly, he sees design as an opportunity to question existing patterns and create something of lasting value.
